I just finished up a training about a week ago teaching me how to coach my clients through a 40-30-30 macro eating plan and how to make it work for life. It was very interesting, and really focused on getting rid of the processed foods and decreasing sugar.
For a 2,000 calorie diet, a person should consume no more than 13.3 teaspoons of sugar in a day. Did you know that the current average sugar consumption per day is 25.28 teaspoons. That is 11.98 teaspoons more than the US government recommendation!!
Hidden sugar is absolutely EVERYWHERE! We have to pay more attention to the food labels. I learned that anything over 8 grams of sugar per serving, is probably not the healthiest choice and should be consumed only once in a while. Do you know how hard it is to find pre-packaged foods that are below 8 grams of sugar?? Take a look for yourself, it’s shocking.
My family asked me to make my famous spaghetti sauce this past Sunday. I always use organic canned tomatoes with no added sugar for my sauce, so I knew I was making a healthy dish. But, while I was at the store getting supplies, I looked at some of the jar sauces just to compare. I had a really difficult time finding anything under 6 grams of sugar. It’s just not something you would think has added sugar – ya know??
